IRVINE, Calif. - For the third straight game, the No. 19 ranked Point Loma men's basketball team jumped out to a big lead early and won by double-digits. Today's road game was the closest contest yet as the Sea Lions went up by as many as 19 points before ending with an 83-71 win over Concordia.
Â
Kaden Anderson recorded his third straight double-double with a season-best 22 points and 13 rebounds. He also led all student-athletes with four assists, while adding a block and a steal.
Brock Mackenzie registered 17 points and
Josh Caston had 14 points off the bench.
Noah Stapes posted a perfect night shooting going 3-for-3 from the field, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range, and 2-of-2 at the free throw line to score 10 points. Concordia's Darius Lee led all scorers with 25 points.
Â
After starting last night's game on a 13-0 run, the Sea Lions came right back tonight with an 8-0 spurt to begin the game. They went up by 19 in the first half and led 51-36 at halftime. A few minutes into the second period the Eagles put together a 14-5 run to cut PLNU's lead to 10 at 60-50 but that is as close as they would get. Point Loma answered with a 10-3 run over the next two minutes to rebuild their lead and the Eagles would never get that close again.

Words from coach Matt Logie
On the team's fast starts: "Our starting group has really found some rhythm together and has done a nice job of executing what we've worked on in practices."
Â
On Anderson's and Mackenzie's consistency: "Kaden and Brock lead by example in everything they do. They are both gym rats, and you can't hide hard work like that. They have worked for all the success they are having. They are very comfortable in our system and know how much their teammates respect them."
Â
On the Sea Lions' offensive efficiency: "Our offensive efficiency is directly correlated to our ability to take joy in the success of others and the group as a whole. We have a lot of skilled players and when we play together and execute our habits we are pretty tough to defend."
Â
On the challenges of playing a team back-to-back nights: "Well fortunately Coach Frost and myself have been down this road before, so the back-to-back schedule although unique isn't necessarily new. What is new, is playing the same team back to back and I think that challenge is really more mental than anything, no matter what happens in the first game."
