SAN RAFAEL, Calif---Another balanced attack led to another Northern California sweep, earning another perfect road trip in the Bay Area for the Point Loma Sea Lions (12-7 overall, 8-3 PacWest) as they swept the Dominican Penguins (1-18 overall, 1-9 PacWest) Saturday afternoon.
Point Loma was lights out in the first set with an ultra efficient .519 attack in the first set leading to a 25-12 victory. They wrapped up the match, and the trip, 25-23 abd 25-17.
It's the second trip to Northern California this month for the Sea Lions that ended with consecutive sweeps of their PacWest opponents.
Lauren Phillips piloted the team effort with 33 assists, her third highest total in a three-set win this season.
Bailey Williams led the balanced attack with 11 kills while
Torina Hommes added nine of her own.
Alexis Soncrant and
Anna Massari each contributed 7 to account for 34 of the 44 PLNU kills on the afternoon.
It was yet another solid effort defensively as well, led by libero
Courtney Dyer's 25 digs, and Point Loma held Dominican to just a .039 attack percentage, the 2
nd lowest mark of the year for the Penguins.
Williams and Soncrant each added 8 digs.
In two road October road trips north of the grapevine, the Sea Lions won all 12 sets they played for four wins.
That momentum will prove necessary as Point Loma returns to Golden Gym for a key trio of matches against the Hawaii-Hilo, Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific this week. That gauntlet begins Wednesday night at 7:00pm against Hilo.
