SAN DIEGO---A program record for points in a game coupled with a pristine 70% day from the field equated to the Point Loma Sea Lions (6-6 overall, 2-2 PacWest) 121-71 victory over the Pacific Boxers (4-7 overall, 0-2 NWC) Monday afternoon inside Golden Gymnasium.
The scoring total is the most that any Point Loma basketball team has tallied since the 12-13 season when the Sea Lions began playing a NCAA Division II schedule.
The scoring wasn't just because of the pace, as PLNU shot a whopping 70.8 % from the field, including going 24-30 in the second half. The Sea Lions connected on their first nine shots of the period.
Kaden Anderson again sparked the Sea Lion offense scoring 21 points and snagging 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes. Anderson was an outstanding +46 in those 18 minutes.
But it wasn't just Anderson, as Point Loma dished out 34 assists on 46 baskets.
Brock Mackenzie knocked down four 3-pointers on five attempts, finishing with 20 points.
Ben Okhotin continued his hot-streak at home with 15 points.
Brian Goracke delivered 14 points off the bench and
Coby Barnes chipped in 10 points.
The game was a frantic pace, as is typical for the Boxers who sub in waves of five every two minutes with a relentless press and high octane offense.
Point Loma held the Pacific offense in check, limiting the Boxers to just 25% from the field on 40 attempts in the first half.
Point Loma also converted the 24 turnovers they forced into 26 points, weathering 22 turnovers.
But the efficiency from the field helped Point Loma control the game, despite the pace being ultra-fast.
Point Loma led the entire way and pushed the lead to as much as 55 before settling into their season high margin of 50.
All 14 Sea Lions that played scored at least two points, with 13 making at least one field goal.
Point Loma will have a few days off and then return from the break by kicking off a road-trip to start 2022. They'll open that portion of the schedule against Concordia in Irvine on January 1
