SEA LIONS HOME WINNING STREAK SNAPPED

SAN DIEGO - The Sea Lions' five-game home winning streak was snapped on Saturday (Feb. 6) in a 94-84 loss to Azusa Pacific.

Kayla Shaw led six Cougars in double-figures with 30 points. Point Loma never had the lead again after going up 3-2 to start the game. APU built a 45-34 halftime advantage and pushed it all the way to 20 points early in the fourth quarter. Despite the deficit, the Sea Lions did not go away easily.

An and-1 layup by Alix Henderson cut Azusa Pacific's lead to 11 points with just over four minutes remaining. PLNU got it down to seven with 23 seconds left, but APU hit 12-of-17 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to keep the Sea Lions at bay.

Haylee Saurette led Point Loma with 19 points and eight rebounds. Ellie Turk added 13 points, including four 3-pointers. Kennedi Byram, Alix Henderson, Madison Williams, and Cara Liggins posted 10 points apiece.

PacWest Implications
The Sea Lions dropped to 4-2 in conference play but so did Concordia after losing to Biola on the road. Both teams remain tied for first in the PacWest SoCal Pod standings. The win puts APU one game back of the conference co-leaders.

Turning Point
Despite trailing all game it looked like the Sea Lions were going to be able to close the gap to single digits to start the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer by Madison Williams with 2:48 left in the third cut the lead to 11 (62-51), but the Cougars closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 19-point lead into the final period.
