SAN DIEGO - Longtime GSAC foes renewed their rivalry Thursday night in Golden Gym, and the Westmont Warriors got the best of the Point Loma Sea Lions, 70-66, in a non-conference game.
Â
Westmont led by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter before PLNU stormed back to tie the game at 65-65 thanks to stellar play by their bench. After an
Ellie Turk 3-pointer tied the game with exactly a minute to go, Westmont took down the shot clock before Stefanie Berberabe was fouled on her drive to the hoop and proceeded to make both free throws.
Â
PLNU came back down and their layup attempt fell off the rim. The Warriors rebounded the ball in traffic and quickly got the ball out to Berberabe who took it the length of the floor for a fastbreak layup to push WC up four with just seven seconds on the clock.
Â
Ellie Turk led the Sea Lions with 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range.
Madison Corder just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Kylie Hearn added a career-high nine points and
Haylee Saurette grabbed 10 rebounds. Lauren Tsuneishi led the Warriors with 23 points. Iyree Jarrett filled the statsheet with 10 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.
