IRVINE, Calif. – The Point Loma baseball team dropped both games of today's doubleheader 10-2 and 9-8 against Concordia.
Game one: Point Loma got down early as the Eagles scored in three of the first four innings. The Sea Lions were unable to get the bats going and dropped game one 10-2.
Concordia got on the scoreboard first as they plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Eagles proceeded to add on in the third and fourth getting a single run in each inning to extend their lead 4-0.
Concordia opened up their lead even more as they scored five runs in the sixth to take a 9-0 lead.
The final score was 10-2. Point Loma's two runs were driven in by
Baxter Halligan and
Easton Waterman.
Game two: PLNU led 8-5 going into the last inning but Concordia rallied with four runs in the seventh inning to break the Sea Lions' hearts.
The Sea Lions struck first in the second inning plating three in the inning.
Brett O'Toole drove in two with a single up the middle,
Otto Kemp followed that up with an RBI single of his own to give PLNU a 3-0 lead.
Jason Dumont added on a run for PLNU to extend their lead to 4-0. Concordia did fight back scoring two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Sea Lion 4-2.
Point Loma tacked on a lone run in the fourth to bring the lead to 5-2. The Sea Lions opened up the game in the fifth inning after
Michael Pineiro hit a three-run home run to extend the PLNU lead to 8-2. Concordia got those three runs right back in the bottom half of the inning after Matt Lautz hit a three-run home run to cut the PLNU lead to 8-5.
With three outs to go in the game, PLNU was seeking their eighth victory on the season. Concordia came out in the bottom of the seventh swinging. After a leadoff walk, Jair Donovan then doubled in the leadoff batter. The next batter then homered to tie the game 8-8.
The next Eagle batter singled before the Sea Lions changed pitchers.
Andrew Amato entered the game and would walk the first batter he faced. With runners on first and second, Xavier Gonzalez singled through the right side to bring home the winning run.
The Eagles walked off the Sea Lions 9-8 to win both games of the doubleheader.
