SAN DIEGO - In the final match of the Seaside Invitational, PLNU was unable to handle the high-powered attack of the nation's No. 3 ranked team, Cal State San Bernardino, and fell in three sets.

The Yotes were led by 12 kills from Melissa Garciglia and 11 from Alexis Cardoza. Setter Marlee Nunley registered 37 assists in the three sets.
Anna Massari and
Alexis Soncrant paced PLNU with seven kills apiece.
Maggie Wolf added a team-leading 10 assists and
Courtney Dyer had 15 digs.

Early in the first set, both team were trading points before CSUSB went on an 8-2 run to seize control at 16-9. They rode that run to a 25-17 set win. In the second, the Sea Lions trailed just 8-5 but the Yotes closed the set on a huge run and carried all the momentum into the third set. PLNU continued to battle in the third set but the defending national champions proved too much for the Sea Lions to handle on Saturday.

Point Loma will now prepare of the SoCal Freeway Challenge which will be held at a variety of locations and universities throughout the Los Angeles area. PLNU will open against one of the tournament hosts, Cal Poly Pomona, on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.Â
