IRVINE, Calif.—An inefficient start was enough to derail the Point Loma Sea Lions (8-7 overall, 3-5 PacWest) return to action, as they fell 69-57 to the Concordia Eagles (8-6 overall, 5-3 PacWest) Thursday night.
The Sea Lions struggled to build offensive momentum early as turnovers led to a Concordia lead from early on. Ultimately, Concordia turned 15 Point Loma turnovers into 12 points, the difference in the ballgame.
Point Loma's slow start offensively was compounded by a 0-7 start from three in the first half.
The Sea Lions rallied midway through the fourth behind
Haylee Saurette, who finished with a game-high 22 points. Point Loma had little issue inside, where they outscored Concordia 40-28. The Sea Lions also had the edge on the glass, out-rebounding Concordia 42-31.
But a poor shooting night equated to Concordia scoring in transition. And what rebounds they were able to grab turned into second chance points and solidified their advantage.
Cara Liggins contributed to the good night on the glass with 11 rebounds, adding 13 points for a double-double.
Alix Henderson had the most efficient night for Point Loma hitting all 3 of her shots before fouling out.
Point Loma will have to bounce back quickly, returning home for the first time in over a month when they host Hawai'i Pacific Saturday at 2:00pm inside Golden Gymnasium.
