SEA LIONS DOWN EAGLES 2-1 ON THE ROAD

(LA MIRADA, Calif.) No. 16 PLNU Women's Soccer beat a talented Biola team Wednesday, recording a 2-1 victory on the road against the Eagles.

"Important win on the road," Head Coach Kristi Kiely stated. "Biola is always a difficult place to play, a difficult opponent, and this was no different."

Alison Pepper posted a strong start, capturing the Sea Lions' first goal in only the 10th minute of the match. Freshman Taylor Christenson dribbled through three Biola defenders, before finding Pepper right outside the box. The senior put a strong right foot on the ball, sending it soaring past the Eagles' final line of defense, and landing in the left side of the net.  Pepper's goal would give her a total of three on the season.

The Sea Lions took a 1-0 lead going into the half, which would quickly turn into a 2-0 advantage in the 58th minute off a goal from freshman Zoe Crockett. The assist came from none other than Pepper, who would only have one defender to beat before crossing the ball in to an open Crockett. With the goal, the freshman is now the second-leading goal scorer for the Sea Lions, tallying four on the season.

"I'm glad we got the early goal, Alison Pepper had a great game," Kiely said. "She was sharp defensively, aggressive on the attack and created a lot of good opportunities while being involved in both goals."

The Sea Lions outshot the Eagles 19-8, creating several opportunities throughout the match. However, the Biola Eagles would not be shut out, as Biola's Mason Stansberry responded with a goal in the 75th minute of the match to close the gap on the Sea Lions.

"We'd loved to have kept a clean sheet as we've done on the road this year, but we weren't as sharp in the second half and will need to be better next game," stated Kiely.

The goal would be too little too late, as the Sea Lions won 2-1 to remain unbeaten in PacWest play. The victory officially pushes the Sea Lions ahead of the Eagles in conference points. The Sea Lions have now beat the Eagles in 11 of their past 21 matches, with their last loss dating back to 2019.

The Sea Lions are hoping to continue their unbeaten streak Saturday, as Point Loma (8-1-2, 3-0-0) is set to host Azusa Pacific (5-2-3, 2-0-1) at 11:30 a.m.
