(SAN FRANCISCO) PLNU Men's Soccer got back to winning ways on Thursday with a 2-1 road victory over Academy of Art, thanks to a first-half brace from
Parker Scalzo.
"I'm happy for the boys today in that this was the first time we have come back to win after going a goal down early in the game," Head Coach
Phil Wolf said.
After the Urban Knights opened the scoring in just the 12th minute, Scalzo responded with a quickfire double less than two minutes apart.
Austin Lavell beat his defender on the right flank before serving in a ball to Scalzo, who scored with a delicate backheel flick in the 15th to tie up the match.
Then a minute-and-a-half later,
Samuel Tuscano whipped in a cross from the left wing for Scalzo to knock home from six yards out.
"Parker scored two class goals off of great services from Austin and Sam," Wolf said.
From there, the Sea Lion defense was able to maintain its lead and prevent the Urban Knights from scoring an equalizer.
With the win, Point Loma improves to 8-6-3 overall (5-3-1 PacWest) and moves into a tie-for-third place in the PacWest standings.
PLNU will conclude the regular season on Saturday against first-placed Dominican, who will clinch the outright conference title with at least point or if Biola fails to beat Holy Names.
