PLNU HAS WINNING STREAK ENDED BY CSULA

(LOS ANGELES) PLNU Women's Basketball led after the first quarter but had its two-game winning streak end on Friday afternoon at the hands of Cal State LA by a final score of 78-62.

Haylee Saurette scored 10 of her team-high 20 points in the first period, while Ellie Turk beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer to cap-off a late 5-0 PLNU run that gave the Sea Lions a four-point lead after one.

After scoring 22 points in the first quarter, PLNU was limited to just 10 in the second, with CSULA taking a slim one-point advantage going into the half.

Allie Carreon hit the Sea Lions' fourth triple of the third to tie the game at 48-48 with just under three minutes left in the period, but the Golden Eagles closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to go up by nine entering the fourth.

The hosts then carried that momentum into the final period, immediately extending their lead to double digits after a pair of offensive rebounds gave them second-chance opportunities.

Two Shayla O'Neil free throws got the Sea Lions back to within nine at the 6:57 mark before the Golden Eagles proceeded to score nine-straight points to help close out the victory.

Carreon (12 points) and Turk (11 points) joined Saurette in double figures in PLNU's final game of 2022.

Point Loma (6-8 overall, 4-2 PacWest), now 1-5 on the road this season, returns to conference play with three away games in Hawaii next week, beginning on Tuesday at Hawaii Hilo.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST / 5 p.m. HST.
