POINT LOMA TAKES BOTH ENDS OF DOUBLE HEADER AGAINST NNU

SAN DIEGO-Otto Kemp made all four of his count as the Point Loma Sea Lions (7-0 overall) secured the series victory against 13th ranked Northwest Nazarene (2-5 overall) with a double-header sweep Friday afternoon at Carroll B. Land Stadium.

The Sea Lions poured on 7 late runs in the final two frames of game 1 to earn a 13-2 victory before riding behind a stellar start from Jack Gonzales, holding onto game two 2-0.

Kemp set the tempo with a leadoff homer in game one and scored the only runs of game two after ripping three doubles.

In game one, Northwest Nazarene quickly responded to Kemp's blast with a two-run frame in the top of the 2nd inning for their only lead of the series thus far.

It took Point Loma three turns at the plate to respond, breaking out the long ball with back-to-back homers from Baxter Halligan and Jakob Christian. Hunter Otjen delivered an RBI double later in the inning to plate Jake Entrekin and Point Loma never looked back.

Starter Dylan Miller settled in after the 2nd inning, striking out four while scattering eight baserunners over six innings of work to earn the victory.

Halligan added an RBI single in the fifth and Otjen doubled in the sixth before scoring on a JJ Gerarden single.

Point Loma turned the ball over to Zach Veen in the 7th and the southpaw fanned six batters over the final three frames, including five in a row, to pick up the save.

The offense poured it on the a three run seventh, benefitting from a Entrekin sac fly and a two-run single from Otjen.

Halligan finished the game with two more RBI in the 8th while Scott Anderson and Reagan Matson added RBI's in the inning.

Point Loma rode the momentum into a very different game two, as Gonzales quickly worked through the NNU lineup. The PLNU starter fanned 8 over six innings of work and received all the run support he needed in the first three innings.

Kemp doubled to start the bottom of the first and later scored on Halligan's RBI single.

Kemp doubled again to leadoff the third and came around on Christian's infield single.

Cole Hillier worked a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.

Point Loma extends its winning streak to 7 games and is now 9-0 all-time against Northwest Nazarene.

The Sea Lions go for the sweep Saturday morning at 11:00 am against the Nighthawks at Carroll B. Land Stadium.
