SAN DIEGO-A furious rally in the third quarter turned momentum but was not able to secure a victory as the Point Loma Sea Lions (13-9 overall, 8-7 PacWest) fell 59-53 to the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (6-10 overall, 3-8 PacWest) Friday night inside Golden Gymnasium.
Point Loma overcame a 14 point halftime deficit with a 15-0 run at the start of the third quarter and shot 80% from the field on 10-12, to overtake the lead.
But Fresno Pacific had fewer lulls in their offense, aside from the first four minutes of the third, and hovered around their 38% from the field for the game.
Point Loma's furious rally, in which they scored half of their offense at the start of the second half, was undone by a slew of turnovers and a rocky night from the field.
Haylee Saurette was the only Sea Lion in double-figures with 10, while
Ellie Turk, Madi Corder, and
Alix Henderson added nine points a piece.
Point Loma will have a busy week ahead, heading to Azusa Pacific on Monday to play the PacWest leading Cougars. They will return home to play Biola on Wednesday and host Concordia for Homecoming on Saturday.
