LA MIRADA, Calif.-Despite holding the advantage on the glass, the Point Loma Sea Lions (13-13 overall, 8-11Â PacWest) were upended 74-56 by the Biola Eagles (16-7 overall, 12-4Â PacWest) Monday night inside Chase Gymnasium.
Point Loma dominated the glass from the opening quarter, overcoming a handful of turnovers, and stayed within four points of the final minute in the period.
Haylee Saurette banked in a three before the buzzer to pull it even closer leaving Point Loma down just one heading into the second period.
The Sea Lions took that momentum into the 2
nd quarter, and grabbed the lead at 16-15. Turnovers again swung the momentum, as Point Loma committed 5 more turnovers. That allowed Biola to jump back in front with five 3's in the period and the Eagles closed the half on a 9-2 run to open up a 37-23 lead.
Point Loma was still dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Eagles 22-11 in the first half, but 10 turnovers undermined much of that work.
The third quarter was a bit more frantic and Biola's lead ballooned to 19 at the start of the 3
rd period. Point Loma answered with an 8-0 run, forcing a slew of Biola turnovers, to pull within 11. However, Biola reset the difference to 19 by the end of the quarter as PLNU committed 7 turnovers in the period.
Point Loma outscored Biola in the final period, but the Eagles had ahold of the lead and the game.
Biola shot over 50% from the field and benefitted from 21 total PLNU turnovers.
The Sea Lions had three different players in double-figures with
Ellie Turk leading the way with 13 points. Saurette added 12 and
Grace Moawad tallied a career-high 10 points with a perfect 4-4 night from the field.
Point Loma will conclude the regular season Saturday afternoon, hosting Holy Names at 1:00pm for Senior Day inside Golden Gymnasium.
