SAN DIEGO– Tight contests early, gave way as the the Point Loma Sea Lions (5-3 overall) dropped their PacWest match 7-0 to the Azusa Pacific Cougars (4-3 overall) Monday afternoon at the Point Loma Tennis Courts.
APU quickly grabbed an edge in doubles, taking a 6-1 win on court 3.
Samantha Neilson and
Angelique Friedrich were close on court two, but APU's top pair pulled out the 6-4 victory, securing the doubles point for APU.
Arianna Audelo and
Amanda Letzring were tied 5-5 when their match was suspended.
APU took care of the first four singles matches in straight sets while Friedrich was the lone Sea Lion to win her first set, 6-2. But the Cougars caught another win there as well, taking the final two sets 6-2, 6-3.
Amanda Letzring was the last one going, clawing back out of a one set deficit, with a 7-6 win in set two. She held a slight edge in the final set before falling 10-8.
The women will have a few days off before they host California State University, Los Angeles at the PLNU Tennis Courts this Friday, February 25
th at Noon.
