SAN DIEGO- The Point Loma Sea Lions (8-8 overall) fell to the Williams College Ephs (3-0 overall) 5-2 Monday afternoon on the Point Loma Tennis Courts.
There were three even match-ups on each of the doubles courts, but Williams grabbed a 6-3 lead on court one and then the Purple Cows barely stole court two 4-6, taking a 1-0 lead over the Sea Lions.
In singles play,
Tyler Davis and
David Strassburger took early sets to level up on their opponents.
Davis solidified his win 6-2, 6-4, tying the score at 1-1.
Strassburger overcame his opponent with his short, sneaky overhand shots at the net and snagged the lead on court 2 in a tiebreak 10-6 third set to give Point Loma their first lead of the afternoon 2-1 over Williams.
Point Loma needed just two more points to clinch the match, but Williams College won the final four singles matches to upend PLNU 5-2.
The Point Loma Men's tennis team will be back at home Tuesday to face Metro State Denver at 3:00 pm on the PLNU Tennis Courts following the women's matchup, which starts at noon.
