(FRESNO, Calif.) No. 12 PLNU Men's Basketball reached the 20-win mark with a dominant defensive display in an 83-48 win at Fresno Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
The 48 points scored by FPU are the fewest Point Loma has allowed this season and the fewest since Nov. 9, 2019 against Montana State Billings.
Â
"I thought our defense carried us today," Head Coach
Matt Logie said. "Holding FPU to 5-for-33 shooting in the first half allowed us to build a lead once we got going offensively."
Â
A
Kaden Anderson 3-pointer at the 12:58 mark in the first half gave Point Loma a 14-5 lead before the Sea Lions didn't score for the next five-and-a-half minutes, during which the Sunbirds got to within two.
Â
PLNU responded with a 9-0 run to go ahead by double digits and then held FPU scoreless for the final four minutes of the half to take a 25-point halftime lead, 41-16.
Â
Point Loma extended its advantage to as many as 37 in the second half, as all 13 Sea Lions who played scored on the night.
Â
"It was great to see everyone get in and score, and gain more experience on our bench," Logie said of his second-unit that outscored FPU's 29-14.
Â
Anderson led all players with 26 points, tying a career-high with six 3-pointers made.
Â
"Kaden was terrific again," Logie said. "I mean, there's not much else you can say. If there is a better player in the country, I haven't seen them yet. He just puts so much pressure on the defense at all times."
Â
Shamrock Campbell and
Tobin Karlberg were the next-highest scoring Sea Lions with nine points apiece.
Â
"Shamrock and Tobin displayed great leadership and consistency as well," Logie said.
Â
The win extends Point Loma's NCAA era program-best winning streak to 16 games, the third-longest winning streak in program history.
Â
Point Loma (20-3 overall, 15-0 PacWest) will conclude its road trip on Monday at 7:30 p.m. when the Sea Lions take on Holy Names in PLNU's final away game of the season.
