(HONOLULU) PLNU Women's Basketball overcame a five-point quarter in Tuesday's win over Hawaii Hilo, but a three-point first quarter against Hawaii Pacific proved too tall of a mountain to climb for the Sea Lions, as the Sharks prevailed by a 70-41 margin on Thursday night.
 
HPU scored the first 12 points of the game and led 24-3 after the first quarter before extending that lead to 28 at the half, with the hosts shooting 57.7% in the opening 20 minutes.
 
PLNU won the third period, 16-15, helped by a 9-for-11 clip from the free-throw line. Point Loma then held Hawaii Pacific to 11 points and 23% shooting in the fourth, as the Sea Lions' defense improved in each successive quarter.
 
Allie Carreon led PLNU with seven points, while Eiley Tippins was close behind with her six points. Maddie Mersch, Ellie Turk, Haylee Saurette and Grace Moawad all pitched in with five.
 
Point Loma (7-9 overall, 5-3 PacWest) closes out its Hawaii trip with a matchup at Chaminade on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. PST / 1 p.m. HST.
