PLNU TIES PROGRAM-BEST START TO A PACWEST SEASON

(SAN RAFAEL, Calif.) PLNU Volleyball swept Dominican on Friday night (25-12, 25-20, 25-14) to tie a program record for its best-ever start to a PacWest season.

With the three-set sweep, Point Loma improved to 11-0 in the PacWest to tie its start to the 2013 PacWest campaign.

PLNU wasted no time in the first set, racing out to a 9-2 lead, as Point Loma held Dominican to just a -0.028 attack % in the opening stanza.

After the Penguins fought back to tie the second set at 10 apiece, back-to-back kills from Torina Hommes and a service ace from Sophia Baugh helped the Sea Lions take back control. Point Loma then extended its lead to as many as six before officially putting the hosts on the brink, two-sets-to-none.

Dominican then led early in the third set and as late as 10-9 before a 4-0 PLNU run, helped by consecutive aces from Baugh, put the visitors up by five. The Sea Lions then closed out the set by winning the final seven points to clinch the match in three.

Hommes (11 kills, two blocks) and Bailey Williams (11 kills, three aces) led a PLNU offense that dominated in the third set with a .552 attack %.

Baugh (three aces) recorded a double-double of 14 assists and 11 digs, while Rosie Cline (13 digs) and Macy Reynolds (11 digs, nine assists) also reached double digits in digs.

Point Loma (14-4 overall, 11-0 PacWest) take on Academy of Art on Saturday at 2 p.m. in search of a 12th-straight win to open up PacWest play for the first time in program history.
