SEA LIONS TAKE DOWN SHARKS IN THREE

(SAN DIEGO) Back in the national rankings for the first time since 2015, No. 25 PLNU Volleyball swept Hawai'i Pacific on Wednesday night by set scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 to continue its unbeaten start to PacWest play.

"We're ready to get back to practice tomorrow," Head Coach Jonathan Scott said. "That wasn't our cleanest volleyball but we got better as the night went along."

With the first set tied 8-8, Claire Smith's kill sparked an 8-0 Sea Lions' run that included three-straight service aces from Torina Hommes.

After Point Loma won the first set comfortably, HPU led by as many as three in the second set, before Gabby Hicks' kill tied it up at 17-17 to prompt a visiting timeout.

The two teams then traded leads before PLNU scored four of the final five points to win the set, with Anna Massari and Bailey Williams combining for a block.

The Sea Lions then led for most of the third, by as many as five, before Massari sealed the sweep with a kill.

"The exciting thing about these girls and how hard they've worked, is that even when it's an off night they're still pretty good," Scott said.

Hommes (12 kills, three blocks, three aces) and Massari (10 kills, five blocks) led the offense with double-digit kills each, with Lauren Phillips dishing out a team-high 19 assists.

Macy Reynolds (18 digs) and Rosie Cline (10 digs) both reached double figures in digs.

Point Loma (18-4 overall, 15-0 PacWest) returns to Golden Gym on Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Sea Lions host Fresno Pacific.
