(SAN DIEGO)
Torina Hommes had a Senior Day to remember.
The fifth-year Sea Lions star set career-highs with 28 kills and 13 digs in her final match inside Golden Gym, but Concordia spoiled PLNU Volleyball's regular season finale in five sets (25-18, 16-25, 24-26, 25-17, 15-13).
CUI hit .429 in the first set before Point Loma responded to win the next two sets and take a 2-1 match lead.
PLNU seniors played a key role in closing out the second and third stanzas, as
Grace Hicks' solo block clinched the second set and then a Hicks combined block with
Claire Smith finished the third.
Hommes tallied 11 kills in the third set alone.
After the Golden Eagles won the fourth to force a deciding fifth set, another Hommes kill gave PLNU a 10-9 lead in the final stanza.
The visitors then earned double match point at 14-12, with the Sea Lions saving the first one via a block from Hicks and fellow senior
Brooke Hanshumaker, only for CUI to clinch the match one point later.
Smith joined Hommes with double-digit kills with 12, while Hicks tallied nine kills and a match-high six blocks.
Sophia Baugh dished out a career-high 34 assists and added 11 digs, while senior
Maggie Wolf also recorded a double-double of 20 assists and 15 digs.
Abigail Nua set a career-high with 25 digs.
Point Loma (21-6 overall, 18-2 PacWest) will next play in the NCAA West Regional after earning an automatic berth via its PacWest championship.
The Sea Lions will find out their postseason fate on Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. PT during the NCAA Selection Show.
