(SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.) PLNU Volleyball is back in the NCAA postseason for the second time in program history.
Â
For the first time since 2015, PLNU Volleyball will be playing in the NCAA West Regional after earning the PacWest's automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.
Â
On Monday evening, Point Loma was announced as the No. 6 seed in the West Region and will take on No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona on Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. in the first round of the tournament, which will be hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
Â
Â
PLNU and CPP played earlier this year on Sep. 8, with the Broncos sweeping the Sea Lions in a closely-contested match in Pomona (25-22, 25-21, 25-23).
Â
Cal Poly Pomona, tabbed No. 22 in the latest AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II rankings, has won seven of eight previous matchups with Point Loma, including six-straight dating back to 2012. The Sea Lions' lone win against the Broncos came in 1992.
Â
Pomona tied-for-third in the CCAA regular season before reaching the CCAA Tournament semifinals, losing to eventual tournament champion Cal State San Bernardino.
Â
A season ago, Point Loma was the last team out of the regional tournament but ensured its spot in this year's bracket by winning a first-ever PacWest Championship.
Â
The Sea Lions started the PacWest season a perfect 16-0 before winning two of their final four matches to clinch the outright conference title.
Â
In its lone other NCAA regional appearance in 2015, PLNU was seeded seventh and swept by second-seeded Western Washington.
Â
The winner between Point Loma and Cal Poly Pomona will advance to play the winner of No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino and No. 7 Central Washington.
