SEA LIONS SURGE PAST CHAMINADE IN SECOND HALF

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Basketball caught fire in the second half to run away from Chaminade, 83-59, on Saturday night in PacWest action.

After making only three 3-pointers in the first half, Point Loma made three in a just over two-minute span early in the second half to force a Silverswords timeout with the Sea Lions ahead 18.

A fastbreak dunk from Wynton Brown and a Zack Paulsen triple then put the hosts up by a game-high 27 with 6:56 left in regulation.

CUH got no closer than 22 the rest of the way, as PLNU closed out the calendar year with its largest victory of the season so far.

Point Loma scored 48 points after halftime on 56.3% shooting, while going 8-for-15 (53.3%) from behind the arc in the second half.

Four Sea Lions scored in double figures, led by Jake Lifgren's game-high 17 points and 7 assists.

Brown posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Zack Paulsen and Tyce Paulsen scored 14 and 13 points respectively.

Matur Dhal added 7 points and 5 rebounds in just under eight minutes of action off the bench, as Point Loma's bench outscored Chaminade's, 29-11.

PLNU limited CUH to just 36.8% shooting overall and 2-for-17 (11.8%) from 3-point range, as the Sea Lions defense impressed, highlighted by a pair of Pierce Davis blocks in the closing minutes.

Point Loma (8-4 overall, 3-1 PacWest) begins the 2024 portion of its schedule on Wednesday, as PLNU hosts Fresno Pacific at 4 p.m. inside Golden Gym.
