SEA LIONS START FAST, FINISH 2023 WITH WIN

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back in a 77-53 home win over Chaminade on Saturday afternoon to close out 2023 in resounding fashion.

Point Loma showed little rust from its Christmas break, shooting 53.4% from the field and making eight 3-pointers in the game.

Ellie Turk's and-one capped off a 7-0 Sea Lions run to start the game before Elle Hanson's triple then put the hosts up by double digits after the opening quarter.

PLNU took a 12-point lead into the half before a 16-2 streak in the third helped Point Loma run away with the game in the second half.

Defensively, the Sea Lions held the Silverswords to just 32.3% shooting and a 22.7% clip from behind the arc while forcing 19 turnovers.

PLNU dominated in several statistical categories, including bench points (35-13), points in the paint (40-22) and fast break points (16-4).

Tavia Rowell led the team with 17 points on an efficient 7-for-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown.

Hannah Golan (9 points) flirted with a triple-double, posting career-highs in rebounds (11) and assists (7).

Maddie Mersch (8 points) and Grace Moawad (6 points, 3-for-3 shooting) provided a significant spark off the bench along with Golan.

Eiley Tippins scored 8 points and added 6 boards.

Point Loma (7-5 overall, 3-1 PacWest) finishes the 2023 portion of its schedule a perfect 4-0 at home, where the Sea Lions will play once again on Wednesday when PLNU hosts Fresno Pacific at 2 p.m.
