SEMIFINAL VICTORY SENDS SEA LIONS TO TITLE GAME

GAME REPLAY

(Matthews, N.C.) PLNU Women's Soccer is just one win away from a national championship.

Point Loma scored three goals in the second half on Thursday to beat Florida Tech, 3-0, in the NCAA Division II semifinals and advance to Saturday's national championship game.

After a scoreless first half, Alana Diaz opened the scoring less than two minutes after halftime.

Diaz, who had a shot in the first half trickle just inches wide of the target, found the right side of the post in the 47th minute after picking the pocket of a Panthers' defender.

The All-West Region forward then ripped a shot from just outside the box that bounced off the inside of the left post and in, leaving the goalkeeper motionless.

Nikki Ross nearly doubled the Sea Lions' lead less than a minute later, only for her brilliant volley from distance that was destined for the top-right corner to be saved straight down off the goal line.

After goalkeeper Julia Pinnell preserved PLNU's 1-0 lead with a diving stop that she caught mid-air, Bethany Arabe made it 2-0 Sea Lions in the 82nd minute with a wonder goal.

Naomi Ellis played Arabe into space, before the winger cut inside from the left flank to split two defenders and curl a shot from outside the area into the top left corner.

Diaz then put the finishing touches on a dominant display by scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 87th.

Arabe turned provider and played Diaz through at goal, as Diaz calmly rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home before cartwheeling in celebration to sum up the Sea Lions' mood on the day.

PLNU, winners of 10 in-a-row, kept its fourth-straight shutout this postseason and extended its shutout streak to 360 minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Pinnell made a career-high eight saves, including a huge one-v-one stop in the first half to keep the game scoreless at the break.

Point Loma (16-3-1 overall), now tied with its 2018 team for most wins in a single season in the program's NCAA era, advances to play Washburn, who defeated Adelphi 1-0 in the second semifinal on Thursday.

Saturday's national championship game will kick off at noon ET / 9 a.m. PT.
