March is almost here and that means postseason basketball is about ready to get under way.
Â
Both PLNU Men's and Women's Basketball qualified for the PacWest Championships set to take place Thursday-Saturday in Honolulu, Hawaii on the campus of Chaminade University.
Â
After making history with an unbeaten 20-0 conference regular season, the Point Loma men are seeded first and receive a first round bye.
Â
They advance straight to the semifinals on Friday (7:15 p.m. HT / 9:15 p.m. PT), where they will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Hawaii Hilo and fifth-seeded Biola. The semifinal victor will then advance to Saturday's championship game, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. HT / 6:30 p.m. PT.
Â
Point Loma (25-3 overall, 20-0 PacWest) won two-straight PacWest Tournament titles in 2018-19 and 2019-20 before falling in the semifinals last season to Academy of Art.
Â
Â
The women are seeded fifth and will play against fourth-seeded Biola on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. HT / 4:45 p.m. PT for the right to play top-seeded Azusa Pacific in the semifinals on Friday (2:45 p.m. HT / 4:45 p.m. PT). The championship is set to be played on Saturday at 2 p.m. HT / 4 p.m. PT.
Â
The PLNU women split with Biola in the regular season, losing 58-71 in La Mirada on Dec. 7 before winning the rematch on Feb. 8 in San Diego, 64-61 (OT).
Â
Point Loma (15-13 overall, 13-7 PacWest) is aiming to make its second-straight tournament semifinal appearance, after the Sea Lions upset second-seeded Dominican in last year's quarterfinals.
