SEA LIONS WIN SERIES AGAINST SHARKS

(HONOLULU) No. 11 PLNU Baseball swept Monday's doubleheader at Hawaii Pacific to win three out of the four games in the PacWest series.

After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, 15-3 and 0-5, the Sea Lions rallied off a pair of victories on Monday by scores of 8-2 and 7-6 to claim the series.

Point Loma wasted no time in Saturday's first game to get on the board, scoring eight runs across the first two innings. Jakob Christian's two-run homer in the top of the first got the Sea Lions rolling before his two-RBI single in the second continued PLNU's hot start to the game.

The Sea Lions scored nine unanswered overall, and after the Sharks scored three of their own in the bottom of the fourth, Point Loma answered right back with four more in the top of the fifth before adding one in the sixth and ninth innings.

Jake Entrekin cleared the bases with a three-RBI double in the fifth to put the Sea Lions up by double digits as part of his four-RBI game. Joey Nicolai posted three-RBIs himself, while Christian (four RBIs) and Scott Anderson each recorded three hits apiece.

After HPU then shut out PLNU in Saturday's second game to even the series, Point Loma's bats found their groove again on Monday.

Bryson Hashimoto's two-RBI double gave the Sea Lions an early lead in the top of the first, before Christian hit his NCAA-leading 12th home run of the season in the top of the third.

Christian's two-RBI single a couple innings later put PLNU up 5-0. HPU then got one back in the sixth before Point Loma added to its lead with three more runs in the top of the eighth on run-scoring hits from Connor Hill, David Garcia and Hunter Otjen.

Cole Colleran earned the win on the mound with his best outing of the season, pitching six innings of one-run ball while striking out seven batters.

The Sea Lions then scored four in the first inning of the nightcap, making it three out of four games that Point Loma had runners cross home plate in the first inning.

After PLNU scored twice on an HPU error, Jack Malone and Will Pope both singled up the middle to make it 4-0 in favor of the visitors.

The Sharks then scored six unanswered, including two in the bottom of the sixth with the game tied, as the Sea Lions were down to their final three outs trailing by two.

Otjen led off the top of the seventh with a walk and Christian was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Entrekin to cut PLNU's deficit in half with a single, still with nobody out.

After Hill was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Malone walked to score another and tie the game, before Derek Lukes' sacrifice fly restored Point Loma's lead.

Cole Hillier then threw a one-two-three ninth inning to earn the save and complete his five-strikeout appearance in 2.1 innings pitched.

Point Loma (13-7 overall, 4-4 PacWest) returns to action on Saturday at Biola for the start of a four-game non-conference series. First pitch in La Mirada is scheduled for noon.
