(AZUSA, Calif.)
Kaden Lewis' seven-inning complete game helped PLNU Baseball battle back from a walk-off, extra-inning loss in Friday's first game at No. 19 Azusa Pacific to win the nightcap, 7-1, in a rematch of last year's Super Regional.
Â
Lewis dominated on the mound in the second game, throwing seven innings of one run ball while striking out eight.
Â
Point Loma scored in each of the first four innings to give Lewis more than enough run support, with
Jake Entrekin's RBI-double down the left field line getting the Sea Lions on the board in the top of the first.
Â
PLNU then scored twice in each of the second and third innings.
Tommy Burleson's RBI-single in the top of the second doubled PLNU's advantage before Point Loma tacked on another on a run-scoring groundout into a double play.
Â
Entrekin then homered to right in the third, with Burleson adding another run-scoring single later in the inning to put the visitors up 5-0.
Â
Bryson Hashimoto added one more in the fourth with his RBI-base hit before
J.J. Gerarden rounded out PLNU's scoring with a solo home run in the seventh.
Â
The win earned Point Loma a split on the day after a crushing loss in the first game.
Â
Trailing 2-4, after the Sea Lions got runs off Hashimoto's RBI-double and Gerarden's sacrifice bunt,
Scott Anderson tied the game in the top of the seventh with his two-run blast to right.
Â
APU then scored in the bottom of the eighth to go up by one, only for Entrekin to level the game again with a grounder to second base, with Anderson beating the throw home.
Â
The Sea Lions then had the bases loaded with nobody out, but the Cougars prevented Point Loma from taking its first lead of the game by retiring the next three batters.
Â
The Cougars threatened to walk it off in the bottom half with runners on first and third and one out, but second baseman Hashimoto made an incredible catch in shallow right field before turning and firing home to throw out the APU baserunner attempting to tag from third.
Â
In extra innings, PLNU then went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 10th before APU hit a walk-off two-run shot to win it in the bottom half.
Â
Point Loma (17-9 overall, 5-5 PacWest) will complete its four-game series with Azusa Pacific (20-12, 13-5 PacWest) on Saturday in San Diego, when the Sea Lions host the Cougars in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
