Point Loma had a three-match winning streak entering its regular season finale, before pushing NCAA Division I UC San Diego to the very end in a close 4-3 defeat on Saturday.

After UCSD swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead, the two teams played evenly in singles with each side winning three singles matches.

A day after being honored on Senior Day,
Angelique Friedrich was the first Sea Lion to win in singles, claiming a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 3 after winning a first-set tiebreak 7-5.

Joelle Lanz was next to win in singles with her 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2 before
Amanda Letzring rounded out PLNU's scoring with her 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 5.

Point Loma (14-7 overall) will now wait for its seeding in next week's PacWest Championships to be announced on Monday.

The conference tournament begins on Wednesday in Surprise, Arizona at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Club.
