(SAN DIEGO) Point Loma has a new single-season home run king.
Â
With a two-run shot in the bottom of the third inning of Friday's first game against Holy Names,
Jakob Christian hit his 21st home run of the season, breaking a tie with Tyler Flores (2018).
Â
But the PLNU first baseman was from done.
Â
With the first game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Christian hit his second walk-off home run in as many weekends, this time a three-run shot to give PLNU Baseball an 8-5 victory.
Â
The win completed a comeback victory for the Sea Lions, who led 4-3 going into the ninth after solo home runs from
Hunter Otjen and
Jack Malone earlier in the game.
Â
The visiting Hawks then scored twice in the top of the ninth to take a one-run advantage, only for
Scott Anderson's RBI-single to tie the game before Christian played hero once again.
Â
Â
Christian's 22 home runs are tied for the most in all of NCAA Division II.
Â
HNU exacted revenge in the second game of the doubleheader, shutting out PLNU in a 3-0 win while holding Point Loma to just two hits in the seven-inning game.
Â
Point Loma (26-12 overall, 14-8 PacWest) and Holy Names will play another doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon, on Military Appreciation Day at Carroll B. Land Stadium.
