EAGLES TAKE TWO FROM SEA LIONS

(SAN DIEGO) After No. 24 PLNU Baseball swept Biola in a doubleheader on Friday, the Eagles returned the favor on Saturday, defeating the Sea Lions 11-7 and 3-1 at Carroll B. Land Stadium.

Two big innings keyed PLNU's victories on Friday but in Saturday's game one, the roles reversed, as a six-run fourth inning almost equaled how many runs Point Loma scored in the game.

The Sea Lions got on the board first when Jakob Christian scored on an error before BU scored once in the second and third innings to go ahead, 2-1.

PLNU got one back in the bottom of the third on Jake Entrekin's RBI base hit, before the visitors capitalized on multiple Sea Lion errors to score six runs in the fourth, all of which were unearned.

Of the eight runs allowed by starter Cole Colleran, only one was earned, with Point Loma committing five errors in the game.

The Sea Lions began to crawl themselves back into the game via the longball. Christian hit a two-run shot to straightaway center in the bottom of the fifth before the Eagles tacked on another the next half inning.

Christian and Entrekin then hit back-to-back jacks to score three runs in the seventh, reducing PLNU's deficit to just two, only for Biola to score two more in the eight to extend its lead back to the final margin of four.

Then in game two, the Eagles scored three unearned runs in the top of the third after an error kept the inning alive, spoiling Ray Cebulski's effective five-inning outing.

The BU pitching staff then only allowed one run to cross home plate in the seventh and final inning, while battling out of several jams.

Point Loma loaded the bases in the fifth but the Eagles got a strikeout to end the threat. The Sea Lions then put runners on first and second with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth, prompting a BU pitching change, before the Eagles' reliever struck out three-straight batters to prevent any runs from scoring.

Then in the seventh, Jake Entrekin's single to right with the bases loaded scored one, only for a strikeout and a flyout to end the game, as PLNU left 11 runners on base.

Point Loma (21-11 overall, 9-7 PacWest) next plays Concordia in a four-game series beginning on Friday at noon.

Friday's doubleheader will be played in Irvine, with two games on Saturday to follow in San Diego.
