(LA MIRADA, Calif.) No. 24 PLNU Men's Tennis had its program-best 13-match winning streak end on Saturday at the hands of Biola, who beat the Sea Lions 4-3 in La Mirada.
Â
For the second-straight matchup with Biola, Point Loma dropped the doubles point to the Eagles, except this time it proved to be the difference as the Sea Lions weren't able come back in singles.
Â
Elias Weeks and
Nabeel Khan won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles but BU claimed the other two doubles matches, both by a 6-4 margin, to go up 1-0.
Â
Tyler Davis then quickly made it 1-1 with his 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, before Biola's Adrian Solorzano handed
Fabian Penzkofer his first singles loss of the season, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.
Â
David Strassburger (6-2, 6-4) and
Andrew Suver (6-4, 6-4) won in straight sets at No. 5 and 4 respectively to give PLNU its first lead in the match, 3-2.
Â
However, the Eagles claimed the two remaining singles matches, both of which went to three sets, to edge the Sea Lions.
Â
Alexander Leischner won the first set at No. 1, 6-0, only for Biola's Alexei Prokopchuk to win both of the final two sets, 6-4.
Â
That set up a winner-take-all No. 6 singles matchup to decide the winner of the match.
Â
Alejandro Castaneda won a first-set tiebreak, 7-3, before BU's Callen Hein came back to win the final two sets, 6-4 and 6-1, to bring an end to PLNU's winning streak.
Â
Point Loma (15-2 overall) returns to competition on Friday when the Sea Lions host Arizona Christian at 5 p.m. on Senior Day.
