(FRESNO, Calif.) PLNU Men's Basketball had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, as Fresno Pacific defeated Point Loma 68-59 in PacWest play.
Â
Zack Paulsen led all scorers with 19 points, with the four other Point Loma starters scoring eight points apiece.
Â
The Sunbirds held the Sea Lions to just 33.3% shooting overall for the game and to a 23.1% clip from behind the arc.
Â
Point Loma shot 3-for-6 from 3-point range in the first half but FPU held PLNU to just 3-for-20 from downtown in the second half.
Â
The Sunbirds led by four at the break and extended that to as many as 13 with 1:45 to play.
Â
Six points from Paulsen in a 24-second span then managed to get the visitors to within seven with 31 seconds remaining, but FPU made a pair of free throws to take away any hope PLNU had of making a comeback.
Â
Point Loma (11-5 overall, 6-2 PacWest) returns to the court on Wednesday at Biola (12-5, 7-2) with first place in the PacWest standings on the line once again.
Â
The two teams played on Wednesday, with PLNU winning 61-50 to jump BU into first place in the standings.
Â
However, with Biola's road win at Azusa Pacific on Saturday, coupled with PLNU's loss to FPU, the Eagles moved back atop the conference standings ahead of the rematch.
Â
Tip-off on Wednesday in La Mirada is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
