HAWAI'I HILO STUNS PLNU IN OVERTIME

(HILO, Hawai'i) Hawai'i Hilo completed a stunning comeback against PLNU Men's Basketball on Tuesday night, hitting a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer before prevailing in overtime, 75-71.

Point Loma led by nine at halftime and by as many as 11 in the second half, before a pair of Zack Paulsen free throws with 34 seconds remaining put the Sea Lions up by five.

After Hilo cut its deficit to one, Coby Barnes made two at the line to make it a three-point game, only for the Vulcans to drive the length of the court in four seconds to beat the buzzer and force overtime.

Paulsen opened up the extra period with a triple from the corner but the hosts then scored the next seven points to go up by four.

A deep 3 from Luke Smith got the Sea Lions to within one in the final minute but PLNU didn't score again until Barnes' layup with two seconds remaining, as Hilo came away with the victory.

Zack Paulsen led all scorers with 20 points, as Barnes (12 points) and Tyce Paulsen (11 points) joined him in double figures.

Point Loma (12-6 overall, 7-3 PacWest) now drops to a game behind Academy of Art (12-5, 8-2) in the PacWest standings, with two games still to play against the Urban Knights.

The Sea Lions continue their trip to the Aloha State on Thursday against third-placed Hawai'i Pacific (11-6, 6-3). Tip-off in Honolulu is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. PT / 6:30 p.m. HT.
