(HONOLULU) No. 16 PLNU Volleyball won its 16th straight match to start the season, remaining unbeaten with a three-set sweep (25-15, 25-21, 25-16) of Hawai'i Pacific to start its two-match trip to the Aloha State.
Point Loma is now one win shy of tying the program's all-time best start to a season, previously set in 2001 (17-0).
Abigail Nua (11 kills) also moved to within four kills of reaching 1,000 for her PLNU career.
In the first set, back-to-back blocks from
Avery Allemann, who leads the conference with 1.20 blocks per set, gave the Sea Lions a lead they wouldn't relinquish, as
Saren Rogers (10 kills) ultimately clinched the opening stanza with a kill.
With the second set tied at 10 apiece, a kill from Nua put PLNU in front for good before the All-American outside hitter gave Point Loma a 2-0 match lead with another kill.
Then three straight kills from Rogers got the Sea Lions off to a 4-0 start in the third before the visitors scored the final six points of the set to complete the sweep.
Consecutive kills from
Anna Massari, who led all players in the category with 12, capped off the 6-0 PLNU run that clinched the third and final set.
Makenna Joyce paced all players with three aces and 16 digs, while
Sophia Baugh dished out 28 assists.
Point Loma (16-0 overall, 10-0 PacWest) next plays at Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday at 7 p.m. PDT / 10 p.m. HDT.
