PLNU POSTS ANOTHER SHUTOUT, DEFEATS VANGUARD ON THE ROAD

(COSTA MESA, Calif.) No. 16 PLNU Women's Soccer remained perfect in PacWest play with a 1-0 win at Vanguard on Thursday, thanks to a goal from Molly Bachman and another shutout from the Sea Lions' defense.

"I'm glad to get another win on the road and am proud of the group to work through the match to make it happen," Head Coach Kristi Kiely said.

Bachman's first career collegiate goal in the 59th minute proved to be the difference.

Bethany Arabe passed the ball out wide to the right back Bachman, who created some space with a touch forward before lofting a ball up and over the goalkeeper from the side of the 18-yard box into the far side-netting.

"This one was created by Bethany finding a seam to play Molly through in an advanced position," Kiely said. "It was fun to see Molly get on the scoreboard."

That goal was a just reward for the Sea Lions, who outshot the Lions 27-5, including 12-2 in shots on goal.

"I am pleased with the amount of quality chances we created and would love to get on the scoreboard more as we create those chances," Kiely said.

PLNU's defense kept its third consecutive shutout, as the Sea Lions won their fourth straight overall and third in a row to open conference play.

"I thought our backline, and center backs specifically, were very active today," Kiely said. "They always put in a good shift and today was no different."

Point Loma (6-1-1 overall, 3-0 PacWest) turns its attention to Saturday's home match against Westmont. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on the PLNU Soccer Field.

The team will receive its national championship rings from last season before the match in a ceremony slated to start at 1:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's game.

"We have been on the road seven out of our eight games and are very excited to be at home," Kiely said. "We will be playing a tough Westmont team but are thankful to be at home."
