PLNU Women's Soccer is seeking a fifth PacWest title in six seasons this weekend.

WOMEN'S SOCCER RANKED NO. 3 IN FIRST REGIONAL POLL

11/6/2024 3:16:00 PM

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Soccer is ranked No. 3 in the first official NCAA West Regional rankings, released on Wednesday.

The top-7 teams in the regional rankings at season's end will earn a spot in the NCAA West Regional, with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds serving as host sites for the postseason.

Point Loma earned the top seed in last year's regional before going on to win the school's first NCAA national championship in any sport.

As the Sea Lions enter the final weekend of the regular season, PLNU knows that wins in its final two matches at Fresno Pacific on Thursday and Academy of Art on Saturday will ensure a fifth PacWest title in six seasons.

Point Loma (11-2-1 overall, 8-1 PacWest) is currently one point behind first-placed Hawai'i Hilo (11-1-3, 8-1-1), but the Sea Lions have played one fewer game than the Vulcans.

Concordia (11-1-2, 7-1-1) lurks two points behind Point Loma. CUI and PLNU both play on Thursday, with Hilo off until Saturday, meaning it will come down to the final day of the regular season to determine who will win the conference title.

Kickoff for Point Loma in Fresno on Thursday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m, followed by a 2:30 p.m. match on Saturday in San Francisco.

PLNU has already clinched one of four spots in the PacWest Championships, taking place Nov. 14 and 16 at OC Great Park in Irvine, with regular season standings determining the seeding.
