(SAN DIEGO) History had a chance of repeating itself in Fresno on Thursday night.
Â
After Menlo tied Biola earlier in the day, No. 6 PLNU Men's Soccer entered its matchup at Fresno Pacific with a chance to clinch the outright PacWest title for the second straight year in Fresno with a victory.
Â
However, despite the Sea Lions outshooting the Sunbirds 17-2, FPU managed to squeak out a 1-0 victory that put PLNU's celebrations on hold and ended Point Loma's 10-match unbeaten streak.
Â
The game went into the half scoreless before the hosts scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute.
Â
That was FPU's only shot in the second half, and only shot on target in the game, as PLNU attempted 11 shots after halftime.
Â
Shawn O'Brien,
Simon Sagal and
Felix Calero all had efforts on goal saved, while
Milan Diklic just missed the far post with a flick header off a corner kick in the final minute of regulation.
Â
Â
Point Loma (10-2-3 overall, 8-1-1 PacWest) can still clinch the outright conference championship on Saturday with a victory at Academy of Art, while PLNU would share the PacWest title with Menlo (10-4-3, 8-1-2) in the event of a tie.
Â
Kickoff in San Francisco on Saturday is scheduled for noon.
