(FRESNO, Calif.) The Sea Lions moved atop the PacWest standings with one game left to play in the regular season after a 3-0 road victory over Fresno Pacific on Thursday night.
"I'm very proud of our group today," Head Coach
Kristi Kiely said. "Everyone who stepped on the field brought something to it."
Â
How It Happened
The Sea Lions wasted no time getting the scoring started, as
Bethany Arabe found the back of the net less than five minutes into the game off an assist from
Alana Diaz.
"It's always good to get on the scoreboard early," Kiely said. "Securing one in the first five minutes allows you to settle in."
Just over 10 minutes later, the Sea Lions added to their lead after
Nicki Friedman booted a ball past the goalie after an assist from
Alyssa Ketcham. To continue their hot start, the Sea Lions tacked on yet another in the 24th minute to extend their lead to 3-0 halfway through the opening half. This time, it was
Alana Diaz who scored the goal after an assist from Ketcham.
"All of our goals were products of good decisions and solid execution, both things we've been working on," Kiely said.
Â
That 3-0 lead held up for the rest of the game, as PLNU's stellar defense held FPU scoreless for the team's fourth-straight shutout and ninth in 10 PacWest games. The Sea Lions limited the Sunbirds to just three shots in the game.

Top Performers

Â
