STRONG THIRD QUARTER LEADS SEA LIONS OVER EAGLES

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball opened the second half on a 16-0 run to pull away from Biola in a 65-50 victory on Wednesday night in Golden Gym, as Point Loma extended its winning streak to six games to remain unbeaten in PacWest play.

After leading 34-30 at the half, the Sea Lions held the Eagles scoreless for the first 6:38 of the third quarter, as Alli McDonald's triple capped off the 16-point scoring stretch for the hosts out of the locker room.

Point Loma extended its lead to as many as 26 in the fourth following Shayla O'Neil's 3-pointer and 3-point play, as PLNU led by no fewer than 15 the rest of the way after its strong start to the second half.

McDonald led all players with 17 points, including eight straight PLNU points in the first quarter that gave Point Loma an early lead.

Three other Sea Lions scored in double figures, including O'Neil (11), Tavia Rowell (11) and Eiley Tippins (10), who was just one rebound short of a double-double.

Kaylee Byon nearly joined them in double figures with nine points while dishing out seven assists.

PLNU outscored BU in both points in the paint (26-16) and points off turnovers (25-14), while shooting 9-for-19 (.474) from behind the arc and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Point Loma (8-3 overall, 3-0 PacWest) next plays at Concordia on Saturday. Tip-off in Irvine is scheduled for 5 p.m.
