(IRVINE, Calif.) PLNU Women's Basketball took another step toward the postseason with a 68-62 road win over Concordia on Thursday night.
"Tough road win tonight," Head Coach
Charity Elliott said. "I'm proud of our fight and composure, particularly in the second half."
After trailing by four at halftime, Point Loma outscored Concordia by five points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Ellie Turk's layup gave the Sea Lions a one-point lead going into the final period, which was extended to as many as nine in the final minute after
Tavia Rowell scored eight-straight PLNU points in a 46-second span.
"Ellie did a great job leading us and Tavia hit some huge shots and even bigger free throws," Elliott said.
Rowell led all scorers with 21 points for the game, while
Eiley Tippins (15 points, 11 rebounds) and
Shayla O'Neil (10 points) joined her in double figures. Turk scored eight points and added seven boards.
"The Player of the Game has to be Eiley, with huge rebounds, putbacks and clutch free throws down the stretch," Elliott said. "I also thought
Maddie Mersch gave us some huge minutes tonight."
Those two were instrumental in the Sea Lions outrebounding the Golden Eagles, 49-31.
Point Loma (14-10 overall, 10-6 PacWest) moves into third place in the PacWest standings, 2.5 games ahead of seventh place with four games remaining. The top-six teams in the conference qualify for the PacWest Championships.
PLNU returns to Golden Gym on Saturday when the Sea Lions host Hawai'i Pacific at 6 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
