(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Tennis enters Wednesday's matchup with preseason PacWest favorites Hawai'i Pacific on a four-match winning streak after a pair of victories last week, 4-1 against Fresno Pacific at home and 6-1 on the road at Concordia.
The matchup between Point Loma and Hawai'i Pacific is a rematch of last year's NCAA West Regional, which the Sharks won 4-1.
On Wednesday against FPU, the Sunbirds claimed the doubles point before the Sea Lions won all four singles matches that finished, as
David Strassburger's 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 clinched the victory.
Then on Friday in Irvine, PLNU won the doubles point over CUI and then five of six singles matches, as
Alexander Leischner (No. 1 – 7-5, 7-5),
Matt Melosch (No. 5 – 7-5, 6-4) and
Lukas Schuster (No. 6 – 6-0, 6-0) all won in straight sets.
Point Loma (5-2 overall) is 2-9 all-time against HPU. Doubles play on Wednesday is scheduled to begin at noon.
