(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Tennis has already beaten the preseason PacWest favorites this season. Now the Sea Lions have their sights on taking down the projected No. 2 team.
Point Loma enters Wednesday's match with Hawai'i Pacific, the team it lost to in the NCAA West Regional in each of the past two years, on a six-match winning streak.
PLNU won two more matches last week, 4-1 against Fresno Pacific and 4-3 against Concordia.
Versus FPU on Wednesday, the Sea Lions claimed the doubles point before winning three of four singles matches to finish, as
Emely Valencia's triumph at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3) sealed the victory. Point Loma also held leads in the other two matches left unfinished.
Then against CUI on Saturday, the Golden Eagles took the doubles point, only for the Sea Lions to respond by winning four out of six singles matches, with
Amanda Letzring's victory at No. 1 (6-4, 7-5) clinching the team win.
Point Loma (7-2 overall) is unbeaten against NCAA Division II opposition this season.
Doubles play between PLNU and HPU on Wednesday is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The Sea Lions have never beaten the Sharks and are 0-10 all-time in the series.
