PLNU BASEBALL WINS SERIES AGAINST CUI

(IRVINE, Calif.) No. 4 PLNU Baseball clinched another PacWest series victory with a Saturday split at Concordia.

Point Loma has now won three of its four conference series, thanks to a dominant 15-2 win in game one on Saturday.

CUI then took game two, 5-2, to end the Sea Lions' eight-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles.

Jack Malone got things started for the visitors with a two-run home run in the second inning of the first game before he stole third and scored on an errant throw in the fourth.

After CUI cut PLNU's lead to one in the bottom half, Point Loma scored 12 unanswered runs with three in the sixth, three in the seventh and six in the ninth.

In the sixth, Eric Smelko scored two with a double before Scott Anderson singled in another. The following inning, Jake Entrekin hit a solo homer, followed by a two-RBI double from Esai Santos.

Then in the ninth, Joey Nicolai, Anderson, Entrekin and Malone all produced run-scoring singles to tie the Sea Lions' largest margin of victory this season.

Austyn Coleman earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up two runs. Christian Williams and Cole Colleran then combined to throw three scoreless innings in relief.

In game two, Entrekin's sacrifice fly and Hunter Otjen's RBI-double tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, only for CUI to score two runs of its own in the bottom half.

The Golden Eagles then scored another in the sixth to go up by three before holding the Sea Lions scoreless in the top of the seventh to close out the win.

Point Loma (18-7-1 overall, 10-5-1 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Thursday when PLNU begins a four-game conference series with Hawai'i Pacific.

First pitch for Thursday's doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
