ANDERSON SETS PLNU CAREER HITS RECORD IN SWEEP

(SAN DIEGO) Scott Anderson became the all-time hits leader in PLNU Baseball program history as Point Loma won both games of Thursday's PacWest doubleheader against Chaminade, 6-5 and 11-0, to sweep the series.

Tyler Kuehl held the program's career hits record since 2011 before Anderson's two-RBI double in game two on Thursday officially moved him atop the record book.

Anderson's two hits in game two fueled an offense that scored double-digit runs for the ninth time this season.

Esai Santos homered for the third time in the series to give PLNU a first-inning lead in the series finale, before Anderson's record-breaking double highlighted a four-run second.

Anderson's base hit up the middle a couple innings later then added to the Sea Lions' advantage, before the hosts put up another four-run inning in the sixth, as Santos recorded his 11th RBI of the series with a sacrifice fly.

That offensive performance backed up a stellar outing from freshman lefthander Branden Jackel, who pitched six shutout innings and struck out seven.

Jackel's performance came after game one starter Austyn Coleman tied teammate Dylan Miller for the PacWest lead in wins with his seventh of the season.

Chaminade scored five runs in the first inning of game one, only two of which were earned, before Coleman didn't allow another run in his 6.2 innings of work.

That allowed the Sea Lions to score once in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to go ahead by one.

Santos' double into the left center field gap scored two to tie the game before Joey Nicolai scored what proved to be the winning run via a balk.

After Christian Williams' 1.1 scoreless innings on just 13 pitches, closer James Sashin came on to strike out two and earn his 12th save of the season, extending his NCAA Division II lead.

Point Loma (26-7-1 overall, 18-5-1 PacWest) has now swept two-straight PacWest series, winning eight-straight games.

PLNU returns to the field on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader at Westmont. First pitch in Santa Barbara is scheduled for 11 a.m.
