PLNU BASEBALL WINS SERIES AT HAWAI'I HILO

(HILO, Hawai'i) After splitting two games on Friday, No. 4 PLNU Baseball swept a Saturday doubleheader at Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday to win the PacWest series three games to one.

In game one on Friday, Dylan Miller (7 IP, 1 ER, 7 K) earned the win on the mound in an 11-1 Sea Lions victory, which finished in seven innings because of mercy rule.

Bryson Hashimoto homered in a four-run third inning, while Tommy Molina picked up his first three collegiate hits and tallied three RBIs.

Scott Anderson's RBI-single in the top of the seventh put PLNU up by the necessary 10 runs to win via mercy rule, meaning Miller was credited with a complete game victory.

Hilo then won game two, 6-3, after Point Loma scored three times in the top of the seventh in a comeback attempt.

But the Sea Lions bounced back with two wins on Saturday, 10-3 and 3-0.

PLNU raced out of the gates on Saturday morning with four runs in the top of the first, capped off by Will Pope's two-RBI single.

Point Loma then added three in the sixth and another in the seventh on a solo shot from Joey Nicolai before Anderson's double in the ninth scored two.

Austyn Coleman was credited with the win, pitching seven innings while giving up three runs.

The Sea Lions then closed out the series with a shutout victory in game four, the team's third shutout win of the season.

Starter Branden Jackel pitched five strong innings, striking out four, before James Sashin earned a two-inning save.

PLNU scored one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, with RBI-singles from Jack Malone and Eric Smelko, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Jake Entrekin.

Point Loma (15-6-1 overall, 7-4-1 PacWest) returns home on Thursday to host Concordia in a PacWest doubleheader. First pitch in Carroll B. Land Stadium is scheduled for noon.
