(SAN DIEGO) No. 5 PLNU Baseball scored nine runs in the first inning to beat Saint Katherine, 10-2, inside Carroll B. Land Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
After scoring 17 runs on Tuesday at Cal Poly Pomona, the Sea Lions kept that momentum going right away against the Firebirds.
After USK scored once in the top of the first, the first six PLNU batters reached base, with
Esai Santos' two-run homer giving the hosts the lead.
Then with the Point Loma already leading 5-1,
Seth Ryberg's RBI-double to left center sparked a two-out rally.
Eric Smelko, Santos and
Scott Anderson all added run-scoring doubles as well in an inning that saw 14 Sea Lions step up to bat.
Smelko then hit a solo shot in the bottom of the third before USK added another in the top of the fourth, which proved to be the end of the scoring on the day.
The Sea Lions threw nine pitchers, with all nine throwing one inning each.
Ray Cebulski was awarded the win, his seventh of the season, after pitching a scoreless inning of relief.
Point Loma (29-8-1 overall) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium to take on Cal Poly Pomona at 2 p.m.
