POINT LOMA WINS IN SHUTOUT FASHION ON SENIOR DAY

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Tennis bounced back from its first loss in almost two months with a convincing 7-0 victory over Westmont on Senior Day in its final match of the regular season.

"It was a great performance today," Head Coach Curt Wheeler said. "Senior Day is always a great day but sometimes a tough day because there's always a lot of memories from the years and the two seniors that we have this year have been here for all four years.

"They've been such a big and important part of our team and our team chemistry, so it was a fun day and the girls played some great tennis."

Point Loma won the doubles point with a shutout 6-0 win from Anna Pallencaoe and Jazlyn Miyamura at No. 3 and a 6-4 victory for Thelma Sepulveda and Arianna Audelo at No. 1.

The Sea Lions then swept all six singles matches for their sixth shutout win of the season.

Pallencaoe won her first set at No. 5, 6-2, before her opponent retired.

Arianna Audelo then only lost one game in her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Melissa Zirkle remained unbeaten on the season in singles, winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

Quin Brady won her 15th-straight singles match to close the regular season, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.

The two seniors, Sepulveda and Amanda Letzring, then rounded out the scoring.

Sepulveda won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 to pick up her 50th career singles win, before Letzring (4-6, 6-2, 1-0) overcame a first-set defeat to win her match in a super tiebreak (10-7) and claim her 46th career singles victory.

"They've made a big impact," Wheeler said of the two seniors. "Obviously they've played phenomenal tennis and have been really big contributors in singles and in doubles.

"With their passion for the game, their love for their teammates and being a part of a great team that wants to do things the right way, they've been an integral part in the success of our team."

Point Loma (15-3 overall) now sets its sights on next week's PacWest Championships.

"The team is excited and confident," Wheeler said. "They've played some great tennis this year with the record that they've had but they're hungry for more. They know we've played great but we're going to continue focusing on getting better and I'm confident that they're going to play their best tennis next week."
