(SAN DIEGO) After a 10-5 loss in the first game of the Super Regionals, No. 1 seed PLNU Baseball will need to win two games on Saturday to keep its season alive.
Â
Point Loma led 5-4 against second-seeded Cal State Monterey Bay but CSUMB stormed back to score six runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Sea Lions.
Â
After the visitors took an early 2-0 advantage, Point Loma put together a four-run fourth inning to take the lead.
Â
Following a double steal from
Esai Santos and
Scott Anderson that put two runners in scoring position,
Jake Entrekin got PLNU on the board with an RBI-single.
Â
Â
Bryson Hashimoto then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the first base line to plate Anderson and tie the game.
Â
Â
Two batters later,
Jack Malone launched a no-doubter over the right field fence, giving the Sea Lions a 4-2 lead to cap off a four-run inning.
Â
Â
The Otters tied it back up with a two-run shot of their own in the top of the sixth, only for
Tommy Molina to restore Point Loma's advantage the following inning with a solo blast.
Â
Â
PLNU was then three outs away from victory before CSUMB began its comeback, preventing Sea Lions' starter
Dylan Miller (7 IP, 4 ER, 2 K) from earning the win.
Â
Point Loma (43-11-1 overall) and Cal State Monterey Bay (39-19) will play again on Saturday to determine who will represent the West Region at the NCAA Division II World Series.
Â
First pitch at Carroll B. Land Stadium is scheduled for 11 a.m., with the Sea Lions needing to win in order to force an if-necessary third game of the Super Regionals, which would be played after the conclusion of game two.
