(LOS ANGELES)
Alana Diaz got No. 1 PLNU Women's Soccer off to a flying start with a goal in the sixth minute, but Point Loma had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Cal State LA after the Golden Eagles equalized late on Saturday night.
Â
Diaz, who registered an assist in each of the first two games of the season, scored her first goal of the year just 5:27 into the match.
Â
Emma Thrapp provided the service for Diaz, sending a ball into the box for the Sea Lions' leading scorer from a season ago to put the visitors in front.
Â
Grace Nelson and
Alyssa Ketcham had shots saved in the first 11 minutes in what was a bright start for PLNU, who outshot CSULA 8-4 in the first half.
Â
PLNU looked to double its advantage, with Diaz and
Priya Torres each forcing a pair of saves from the opposing goalkeeper in the second half.
Â
Cal State LA, receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, ultimately found an equalizer in the 83rd minute, as the two teams tied for the second-straight season.
Â
Â
Point Loma (2-1-1 overall) is set to conclude its non-conference schedule on Saturday with a home matchup against UCCS at 11:30 a.m. in a rematch of last year's national quarterfinals.
