SEA LIONS, GOLDEN EAGLES BATTLE TO DRAW IN LOS ANGELES

(LOS ANGELES) Alana Diaz got No. 1 PLNU Women's Soccer off to a flying start with a goal in the sixth minute, but Point Loma had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Cal State LA after the Golden Eagles equalized late on Saturday night.

Diaz, who registered an assist in each of the first two games of the season, scored her first goal of the year just 5:27 into the match.

Emma Thrapp provided the service for Diaz, sending a ball into the box for the Sea Lions' leading scorer from a season ago to put the visitors in front.

Grace Nelson and Alyssa Ketcham had shots saved in the first 11 minutes in what was a bright start for PLNU, who outshot CSULA 8-4 in the first half.

PLNU looked to double its advantage, with Diaz and Priya Torres each forcing a pair of saves from the opposing goalkeeper in the second half.

Cal State LA, receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, ultimately found an equalizer in the 83rd minute, as the two teams tied for the second-straight season.

Point Loma (2-1-1 overall) is set to conclude its non-conference schedule on Saturday with a home matchup against UCCS at 11:30 a.m. in a rematch of last year's national quarterfinals.
